1960년대 초 영국에서 유명해졌다. 에릭 버든의 목소리가 매력적인 소리를 내며 〈The House of the Rising Sun〉으로 히트했다. 그 외 히트곡은 〈Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood〉, 〈I'm Crying〉, <We Gotta Get Out of This Place〉, 〈It's My Life〉 등 이 있다. 그 후 1966년에 해체되고 다시 새 멤버로 구성되기도 했다.
